International champion, choreographer and TV dancing sensation

Born in Zamdela Sasolburg, South Africa, Johannes Radebe began dancing at the age of seven and was quickly captivated by ballroom’s smooth elegance and Latin’s fiery footwork. He spent the next 13 years competing while rising in the ranks of those dance disciplines and also putting credits in African contemporary and jazz under his belt. Plus he joined the Afro Arimba Dance Company.

A finalist at numerous national dance competitions, Radebe became a three-time Amateur Latin South African champion and two-time Professional South African Latin champion. He was invited to compete internationally in Russia.

When Radebe was 21, he landed a job on the Costa Italian cruise liner and worked his way up to becoming a choreographer and eventually the dance captain. By 2014, he’d drawn the attention of producers for the hit TV show Dancing With The Stars, the international version of Strictly Come Dancing, and was selected as a professional dancer for the inaugural South African series. Radebe was with the show for two years, reaching the finals in both seasons.

Shortly after, he landed a spot on the international dance show Burn The Floor. While touring the world, Radebe was spotted and recruited for Strictly Come Dancing. He made his debut on the hit BBC programme in 2018 taking part in some memorable professional performances.

In the 2019 series of Strictly, Radebe landed his first celebrity pairing with Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley and they placed 11th – bowing out on Halloween after a spook-tacular cha-cha. Radebe returned in 2020 for a shortened season partnered with actress Caroline Quentin, and the duo made it to eighth place thanks to his explosive routines.

Set to appear for a fourth time on Strictly Come Dancing’s 2021 series, Radebe also announced his first UK tour fusing African, Latin and classic dance arrangements. The celebration entitled Johannes Radebe: Freedom featuring his signature energy and style crosses the country from 16 March – 1 May 2022.
