About Jimmy Cobb

These masters of Jazz are appearing in the Sugar Club for what promises to be the Jazz event of the Summer. They are bringing a mix of Cool Jazz and Funk Jazz with a sound that swings.

Jimmy Cobb
The legendary drummer from the famous Miles Davis Sextet of 1957 – 1963 that included “Kind of Blue”. Drummer with Wes Montgomery until 1970. Sideman to the immortal Sarah Vaughan for 10 years.

Pee Wee Ellis
The funkiest horn in the business.  The man who invented Funk Jazz back in the early seventies.  Bandleader for James Brown during the sixties.
Bandleader for our own Van Morrison for thirteen years.

Grant Green Jr.
One of the masters of groove. Son of the iconic Grant Green and every bit as masterful.  He has played with greats such as Leon Thomas, Reuben Wilson, Jimmy McGriff, Lou Donaldson, and Dr. Lonnie Smith among others.

Ike Stubblefield

The Four Tops, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Martha Reeves, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Ike & Tina Turner, Curtis Mayfield, B.B. King, The Pointer Sisters and George Benson…Whew! This is only the start of the long list of super stars that have benefited from having him on the Keys.  After traveling the world as a performing artist, Stubblefield took to the studio in 1976, producing, composing and writing songs with the likes of Phil Spector and Quincy Jones.  The Musicians Musician!
