One of the most successful pop artists of the last two decades, Jason Derulo is well schooled in chart-toppers. Beginning his recording career in 2009, he has gone on to sell over 250 million singles worldwide, going platinum with hits such as ‘Talk Dirty’, ‘Ridin’ Solo’ and ‘Whatcha Say.’ Born Jason Desrouleaux, the singer started his career writing for other artists, contributing tracks for Diddy, Sean Kingston and Lil Wayne, among others. After years at performing arts school and a stint on the 2006 TV show, Showtime At The Apollo (on which he won the grand prize in the show’s season finale), Derulo was discovered by producer J.R. Rotem and signed his first record deal.

Derulo’s debut single, ‘Whatcha Say’, was released in August 2009. By November, it had hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100. His debut album, Jason Derülo, followed in March 2010, with Derulo joining Lady Gaga as one of the opening acts on her Monster Ball tour. Collaborations with Pixie Lott and Demi Levato kept him busy in the months following, but it wasn’t long before Derulo returned with sophomore album, Future History, released in September 2011.

In 2012, Derulo took to American Idol to announce a collaboration with fans on his next single, ‘Undefeated’. Fans submitted their own lyrics for the track, with the final decision being put to a vote. Third album, Tattoos, arrived in 2013, containing the hit single ‘Talk Dirty’. The album was released everywhere except in the US. Six months later, Derulo announced plans to rework the album for the US release, including four new songs, alongside seven tracks from Tattoos. The reworked record was called Talk Dirty, and was released as a special edition of Tattoos in the UK.

Whilst preparing to release his fourth studio album, Derulo was announced as a judge for the 12th season of So You Think You Can Dance. He released the lead single from Everything is 4, ‘Want To Want Me’, in March 2015, and the song quickly became the most added track in the history of Top 40 radio, being added to 156 pop stations. Everything is 4 followed in May. Just a month later, Derulo announced his first greatest hits album, Platinum Hits. The compilation was released the following year.

2017 opened with a huge collaboration with Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign, ‘Swalla’. Derulo’s next studio album, 777, was announced at the Billboard Music Awards, before being renamed to 2Sides, with Derulo explaining that he felt the new title was truer to where he was in his life at that moment. Side 1 of the split album arrived in 2019, however Side 2 was scrapped after Derulo left his contract with Warner Bros – with the artist expressing that he would be focusing on new projects in 2020.

June 2020 saw Derulo take over TikTok with ‘Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)’, a collaboration with Jawsh 685. A remix by BTS took the song to No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100. In March of 2023, it was announced that Derulo would be replacing Keith Urban as a judge on the Australian edition of The Voice. That same year, Derulo announced a UK arena tour for March 2024.
