About
Harry Connick, Jr. is a man of many talents. Not only has he received multiple Grammys for his music, but he's also racked up a collection of Emmy and Tony Awards for his acting and composing achievements on the big and small screens, as well as on Broadway.
At the heart of everything Harry does is the music of his native city, New Orleans. From the age of five, he began performing there as a pianist and vocalist. Taught by two of the city's keyboard legends – James Booker and Ellis Marsalis – Harry left for New York at the age of 18 well schooled and in full command of jazz and pop music styles.
In 1987 he released his self-titled debut album, following that up a year later with the album 20, which showed his skill at the great American songbook. But he rose to stardom in 1989 with his big band performance for the soundtrack of the hit film When Harry Met Sally.
Harry is also widely loved for his time as a judge on the TV show American Idol. His duet performance on the series finale with fellow New Orleans native Marley Fletcher to Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World was simply incredible.
