About

The happiest place in the universe

In May 2021, slowthai announced a new one-day festival in his hometown of Northampton. Held at the Northamptonshire Cricket Club – which is located just up the road from his mum’s house – the live music event billed as Happyland is set for Saturday 25 September 2021 and has a simple policy: No smile, no entry.

With live events on hold for much of 2020 and early 2021, the revered rapper wanted to throw a party where family and friends could gather for some fun and overdue partying – so he curated a line-up with a trailblazing group of artists representing different facets of the UK music scene.

Taking on headliner duties is slowthai himself in a belated celebration of his No.1-charting album TYRON, and he’ll be joined by the likes of Bristol punks IDLES, Leicester five-piece indie-poppers easy life, rising indie star beabadoobee, South London-based rapper and provocateur Shygirl, BBC Sound Poll winner Pa Salieu, psychedelic R&B singer-songwriter Greentea Peng, Northampton rapper Izzie Gibbs and newbie beatmaker Ethan P Flynn.

About having conceived the event, slowthai wrote: “Happyland with happy folk. The place where we can laugh and joke. The place you can be yourself without judgment, expectations and impressions of someone else. The space from the shackles of the everyday. The mountain where we climb to run away. Imagine what you’ve never had when you come to Happyland – you will never be sad.”
