About

Singer-songwriter who has topped the charts both as a solo musician and lead singer of Take That

Born in Cheshire in 1971, Gary Barlow took to the piano at an early age, inspired by Depeche Mode's 'Just Can't Get Enough'. Following a number of years performing around the north of England and a TV appearance on the BBC's Pebble Mill At One, Barlow drew the attention of manager Nigel Martin-Smith. Looking to replicate the success of New Kids On The Block, Martin-Smith enlisted Barlow as the creative centre-piece of Take That.

Dominating the charts, airwaves and stages across the globe throughout the '90s, Take That secured three No.1 albums before their notorious split in 1996. Barlow quickly released his debut solo single 'Forever Love', and reached the top of the UK album chart with Open Road in 1997. Following a two-year break, Barlow returned in 1999 with Twelve Months Eleven Days and its lead single, 'Stronger'.

Barlow signed a publishing deal with Sony, writing successful hits for the likes of Blue, Delta Goodrem and Will Young. His true resurgence occurred when teaming back up with Take That (minus Williams) in 2005, surpassing their prior success with the likes of albums Beautiful World and The Circus. Alongside writing music for TV shows and starting his own Future Records label, Barlow eventually rekindled his friendship with Williams and unveiled the duet, Shame. With bridges firmly mended, Take That once again became a five-piece and released the record-breaking Progress in 2010.

Re-invigorated by his recent successes, Barlow returned to his solo work and unveiled Sing in May 2012, climbing to the top of the UK album chart. At just 24 minutes long, it was the shortest album ever to reach No.1 in the UK. Just over a year later, he returned with the full-length Since I Saw You Last, which went Double Platinum. In the meantime, Barlow had also taken on judging duties on the UK's The X Factor. Honouring the role for three series, he eventually moved on to focus on solo touring and the release of Take That's seventh studio album III in 2014.

The subsequent years saw Barlow release another album with Take That – 2017's Wonderland – as well as turning to musical theatre. He co-wrote the musical score for Finding Neverland, and teamed up with Tim Firth to create the West End show, The Girls.

In September 2020, Gary Barlow released his fifth solo studio album, Music Played By Humans, in November 2020. Its lead single Elita featured Canadian artist Michael Bublé and Columbian vocalist Sebastian Yatra, while other guest appearances on the record included Beverley Knight, Alesha Dixon, James Corden, Chilly Gonzales, Ibrahim Maalouf and Avishai Cohen.

In November 2024, Barlow announced The Songbook Tour, a huge run of UK dates for 2025, kicking off in the Isle of Man in April and ending in Thetford Forest in June, and including dates at London's Royal Albert Hall and Manchester's O2 Apollo.

  • Gary Barlow -Thetford Forest (car park great success

by Polly on 23/06/2025High Lodge, Thetford Forest - ThetfordRating: 5 out of 5

Attended Gary Barlow on Saturday 21st June and I must say as I had had previous problems with the car park. How surprised was I so many stewards all helpful and ushered people politely. The venue was great also improved since the last time I went(that time took 2 hrs to get in the car park everything ran late so we left before Rag n boneman performed !) The VIP Glade tickets were worth that bit extra. The food and drink concessions were brilliant. One small complaint the toilets were rather cramped due to the sanitary bin placed just inside the door. On leaving the location Gary finished at 10pm walked to the car in the purple car park (again so many stewards with red and green laser lights) We were out of the car park no grief or angst by 1030pm...result. Well done. Gary was brilliant as always by the way

  • Amazing show and brilliantly organised

by Lisa on 23/06/2025High Lodge, Thetford Forest - ThetfordRating: 5 out of 5

Gary was as always, amazing beyond words! Despite the heat, didn't feel squashed in even down by the front and facilities were great. Some queues which is expected but not too long considering. Got in and out of the green car park really quickly which was impressive. Overall a great experience!

  • Wish drink / eat / seating information was clearer

by New to forest events on 22/06/2025High Lodge, Thetford Forest - ThetfordRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was perfect, especially the fireworks at the end, the atmosphere was enjoyable & friendly, plenty of toilets, we didn't use the catering as brought our own food. Was disappointed to find after reading that we could bring in 1 ltr of drink in a plastic bottle with lid unopened to find people with all types of drink including cans / alcohol that I read were not allowed in the venue, it seemed like people had come with big picnics, chairs etc Having been to stadiums gigs & arena gigs i was very careful to read the list of things allowed. Loved the bin men walking about all evening. Despite this we had an amazing evening, it was a lovely friendly atmosphere & will definitely come to the forest for a gig again. Next time im bringing some cider, picnic & chairs Thankyou for making it a lovely experience 😊 Parking up & getting out was very organised

Had a fantastic evening in the forest listening, singing, dancing along to two fantastic acts - both Beverley Knight & Gary Barlow and their respective bands were fabulous & definitely bought that singing, dancing vibe to the concert! Hats off too for the two ladies signing every lyric for every song!!

  • Beautiful setting

by Mazzie66 on 22/06/2025High Lodge, Thetford Forest - ThetfordRating: 5 out of 5

A well organised event. Set in a beautiful setting. Food trucks and a bar all fairly priced. If you prefer you can take a picnic. Beverley Knight and Gary Barlow both excellent

  • Fab concert

by Niks & Bex on 22/06/2025Blenheim Palace - WoodstockRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely fab concert Evening finished by awful coordination to exit the park… sitting in queue after queue with cars going everywhere, such a shame as such a lovely venue!

  • Spoilt experience

by Lynn on 21/06/2025Blenheim Palace - WoodstockRating: 5 out of 5

Concert was fab , great night. Spoilt by exiting Blenheim Palace. This was completely mismanaged. There was no traffic control of any kind. A dangerous free for all. Officials just stood back and watched the mayhem! Took us longer to get out of Blenheim Palace than it took us to drive to the venue, 35 miles away. Won't be going back

  • Show was great - getting out of the car park after wasn't

by Richard on 21/06/2025Blenheim Palace - WoodstockRating: 4 out of 5

Tunde, Beverley Knight and Gary Barlow were absolutely fantastic . It was an awesome show . The only down side was getting out of the car park - I'm sure we were in the first 10% of people getting to their cars and it took us an hour to get out of Blenheim Estate! We drove past an exit within 100 yards of where we were parked and taken on a magical mystery tour of the grounds - very disappointing … The show was worth very penny though

  • Shame about the cameraman

by Lizziek on 21/06/2025Blenheim Palace - WoodstockRating: 4 out of 5

This was a brilliant concert but having paid a lot of money for good seats, the view was completely obscured by a fixed cameraman for the whole concert. It was very upsetting.
