Self-deprecating and hilariously honest comedian, actor, writer and podcaster

Ed Gamble was born and raised in London. When he was 13 years old, he caught a bad cold and ended up with Type 1 diabetes. Being diabetic is something he would come to address often in his performances.

Gamble attended King’s College School in Wimbledon and studied philosophy at Durham University, where he began his comedy career as part of the Durham Revue.

Among his early gigs, he wound up in a heat of the So You Think You're Funny? competition at The Watershed in Wimbledon, where he wore a baseball cap and talked about replacing bras with live birds.

In 2009, Gamble began co-writing and co-hosting The Peacock And Gamble Podcast with Ray Peacock (real name Ian Boldsworth). Widely praised, it was nominated for a Chortle Award in 2011, and saw the pair – as Peacock & Gamble – present programmes on BBC Radio 4 as well as perform together at Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2011 to 2013.

While rising in the comedy circuit ranks, Gamble supported comedians like Russell Kane and Chris Addison. He also opened for Greg Davies on his first ever stand-up tour, Firing Cheeseballs At A Dog, in 2012 and again on his second tour, The Back Of My Mum’s Head, in 2013. The following year Gamble earned a Chortle Award for Best Compere.

Gamble made his solo debut at Edinburgh Festival Fringe with the show Gambletron 5000, but actually rose to fame playing Georgie Carlton on E4’s Almost Royal for two seasons in 2014 and 2016. It had become a cult hit in the US on BBC America, and his popularity grew even more after the show was released on Netflix.

In 2015, Gamble brought the show Lawman to the Fringe and played to sold-out audiences, and he came back in 2016 with Stampede, which he took on a sell-out UK tour in 2017.

Over the years, Gamble has become a mainstay on the comedy panel show Mock The Week, as well as been seen on Taskmaster, The Apprentice: You’re Fired, Roast Battle UK, Drunk History and The Chris Ramsey Show. He’s also written for Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Ask Rhod Gilbert – plus both written and appeared in the third series of Davies’ sitcom Man Down.

In 2018, Gamble appeared at Edinburgh Festival Fringe with Blizzard, which was dubbed as a “bracing flurry of idiocy”, and later took it on tour across the UK. In addition, that December he launched the hilarious food-themed podcast Off Menu with his long-time friend and fellow comedian James Acaster and it was nominated at the 2019 British Podcast Awards in the Best Entertainment category.

Gamble was supposed to get married to fiancée Charlie Jamison in early 2020, but the wedding had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. In early January 2021, he humorously tweeted, “I always knew I’d have to cancel three weddings, I just never thought they’d all be to the same woman”.

In May 2021, Gamble announced dates for his brand new Electric UK tour from 3 February – 23 April 2022.
