Ed Byrne presents Tragedy Plus Time
Irish actor and comedian Ed Byrne returns with a brand-new tour, Tragedy Plus Time. Attributed to Mark Twain, humour is defined as Tragedy Plus Time. Come and join Ed as he tests that formula by mining the most tragic event in his life for laughs.
Born in County Dublin in 1972, Byrne found a talent in comedy during university in Glasgow, where he put on The Comedy Cellar, where he booked fellow aspiring comedians while developing his own observational style. In 1998 he was nominated for the Perrier Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Fringe, where he would later return for many sell-out shows.
Byrne's popularity snowballed throughout the 00s, with shows such as Me Again, Standing Up, Falling Down and Warming Up in the Cold. He also recorded comedy specials including Pedantic and Whimsical, Crowd Pleaser and Roaring Forties. He's also appeared as a guest on the likes of Mock The Week and Never Mind The Buzzcocks (let's not mention getting a pie to the face from Robert Downing Jr. on The Graham Norton Show), plus acted shows and films from Father Ted to Are You Ready For Love?
Edinburgh Fringe 2023 was a bumper 5-star review year for Ed. They came in thick and fast alongside outstanding critical acclaim for this exceptionally funny, ‘Best Reviewed Stand Up Show at Edinburgh 2023’ (British Comedy Guide).
As seen as Hosting Live At The Apollo and regular appearances on QI and Mock The Week (BBC).

Hilarious, very moving, genuinely heartbreaking at times, but Ed handles the subject incredibly well. The show is a celebratory masterpiece and evidence of his immense comedic skills. Loved it, must-see, can't wait for his next tour !
Great show, had us all laughing and crying at the same time. It's amazing how Edd has found laughter in his family tragedy.
Not sure before I went , Very funny great evening I've seen Peter Kay and Sarah Milligan this year which were good but Edd pips them I would put you back on Tv lol
Really enjoyed Ed's show, more fool me for not reading what the subject matter was about. I lost a daughter to cancer 2 years ago and my daughter lost a sister, so we found the show very moving and emotional. We did of course also find it funny.
A tightly crafted, funny and intelligent set with great humour, lots of laughs and poignancy… comedy is truly tragedy plus time. Go and see!
Goes places we can only have nightmares about and we still come out the other side howling with laughter. Commends respect for being a master of his craft. Thank you
great show funny with a serious point my dad and me loved it
I didn't had any expectations going to see Ed my friends either. But boy did we had an amazing time? The guy is hilarious and I paid much more for famous comedians that disappointed us! Ed you got yourself 4 new fans🎉 and Michelles act was nice 👌
Ed Byrne is always great & the support -Michelle O'Shaunnessy was really good too. I hope we'll get the chance to see more of her.
