About

There is simply no denying Dua Lipa’s pop culture power

Born in London to Kosovar-Albanian parents, Dua Lipa attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School in her early teens. When she was 13 her family moved to Kosovo, but she returned to the UK two years later to pursue her interest in music.

Initially, Dua Lipa gained popularity singing covers and posting them on YouTube. She uploaded her first original songs to SoundCloud in 2012, which attracted the attention of Lana Del Rey's management. They signed and connected her with American music producer Emile Haynie, who’d not only worked with Lana but also Bruno Mars and FKA Twigs.

When her debut single 'New Love' came out in 2015 it was a huge hit. Dua followed it with a second single, 'Be The One', later that year. Soon after she was selected as one of the year's most promising emerging music acts for the prestigious BBC Sound Of 2016 longlist.

Dua's self-titled debut was released in 2017, which not only contained her earlier hit singles but other hugely popular tracks such as 'New Rules' and 'IDGAF'. The album achieved platinum status in both the UK and US, as well as earning her a record-breaking five nominations at the 2018 BRIT Awards, where she won British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act.

Trying her hand at electronic music in 2018, Dua Lipa joined forces with Calvin Harris on 'One Kiss', which topped the UK singles chart for eight weeks and became the country’s biggest selling song of the year. Silk City, the super duo consisting of Mark Ronson and Diplo, also collaborated with her in their hit single 'Electricity', complete with a video of the star dancing at a rooftop party in New York City during a blackout.

For the singer's sophomore album she said in a press statement, “what I wanted to make was something that felt nostalgic but had something fresh and futuristic about it too”. Inspired by artists like Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Outkast and Gwen Stefani, Future Nostalgia saw its lead track, Don’t Start Now, become a massive worldwide hit (as did its second and third singles 'Physical' and 'Break My Heart', respectively) – before the album came out on 27 March 2020.

2023 was a huge year for Dua, starring as Mermaid Barbie in the box office smash hit Barbie. Her track 'Dance The Night Away' also featured on the film, but beyond the big screen the song caused a frenzy of its own, reaching the Top 10 all across the world and hitting No.1 in Argentina, Belgium, Japan the U.S and beyond. Dua performed the track at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, where it was nominated for both Song of the Year and Best Song Written for Visual Media.

Later in the year she released the single 'Houdini', the lead single from her forthcoming album Radical Optimism, released in May 2024. The track was produced by Danny L Harle and Tame Impala's Kevin Parker.

2024 is shaping up to be even bigger. In January she released 'Training Session', the album's second single, as well as starring in an ensemble cast in the spy action comedy film Argylle. In March she was announced as a Glastonbury Festival headliner and announced arena dates in Europe.

    Classy performance

by Superhuey on 18/10/2024Royal Albert Hall - London

Great night at the Royal Albert Hall. Dua Lipa showed she can captivate an audience without the need for dancers or gimmicks. Pure soulful singing with beautifully arranged orchestration of such classics as The One, Love Again and newer Illusion and Training Day. With the added bonus of seeing the legend Elton John on stage again. What a privilege to be there.

    Best Artist ever

    by Jason Art on 26/07/2024

Shes one of the few artists that performs most of her popular songs as well as the songs of her latest albums. She's always on time unlike most artists you see these days (cough cough madonna, travis scott, beyonce etc). Her performances are unreal too and her stage presence is immaculate and I think she definitely one of the best performers of our generation as someone who goes to A lot of concerts. She knows how to put on a show and thats why I always fight to buy her tickets. I could spend hundreds and every penny would be worth it thanks to Dua Lipa herself. Even if you're not a fan you could still show up to her concert and vibe well as most people know most of her songs One of the best artists of our generation.
