A new immersive theatrical event to open in London in 2021
Since making its BBC debut in 1963, Doctor Who has enthralled generations of fans with its unique blend of sci-fi and history.
The television series depicts the adventures of an alien called “The Doctor”, who explores the universe – alongside a companion – in a time-travelling spaceship that looks like a British police box. Played by 13 different actors, ranging from William Hartnell (the original Time Lord) to Jodie Whittaker (the present-day incarnation), Doctor Who battles a variety of foes such as evil Daleks, Cybermen, Davros and Zygons.
In August 2020, Immersive Everywhere – the creative force behind London’s popular and all-encompassing experience The Great Gatsby – announced the immersive theatrical production Doctor Who: Time Fracture, would launch at London’s IMMERSIVE | LND venue from February 2021.
Officially licensed by BBC Studios, it centres around a top-secret mission from the Unified Intelligence Task Force that takes audience members (aka UNIT recruits) travelling across space and time.
The setting is 1940 at the height of the Blitz. A weapon of unknown origin has destroyed a small corner of Mayfair and opened up a rift in the space-time continuum. For decades, UNIT has fought undetected to protect the people of Earth from the threats it poses – however, weakened and weary, they’re facing defeat.
Doctor Who: Time Fracture puts audiences in the heart of this original storyline, with the planet and future of the human race at stake. Will anyone step up and be the hero?
The creative team at Immersive Everywhere have worked hard to bring the universe of Doctor Who – all the impossible places and menacing monsters – to vivid life. Dropped right into the action, there are strange and mysterious characters to meet, including one from Time Lord Victorious, BBC Studios’ brand new multi-platform Doctor Who story launched in September 2020.
“Drawing from the rich legacy of Doctor Who, which spans over half a century,” explained writer Daniel Dingsdale, whose theatrical writing credits include Dark Tourism and The Drop Off. “We are creating an adventure that will entertain both fans that have immersed themselves in the show’s universe for years, and audience members who will walk in from the street having never seen an episode.”
Doctor Who: Time Fracture materialises in central London from 17 February 2021. Performances run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 18:30, 19:15 and 20:00 and on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 12:30, 13:15, 14:00, 18:30, 19:15 and 20:00. There are no performances on Mondays.
Doctor Who: Time Fracture is an immersive version of TV’s Doctor Who, which means you get to become part of the story and experience it instead of simply being a spectator at a show.
