The rapper, songwriter and drill sensation
Rhys Herbert, a leading voice in the UK’s drill scene, is best known by his stage name Digga D.
Born in West London at the millennium, he grew up listening to Jamaican and dancehall tunes and started writing his own music at the age of 12. Digga D joined the hip hop collective 1011 in 2015 and they released the tracks Kill Confirmed, No Hook and Play For The Pagans the following year.
Regarded as trailblazers of drill, a subgenre of hip hop that incorporates elements of garage and grime, the group was arrested in November 2017 and sentenced to a year in prison for conspiracy to commit a violent disorder as well as banned from releasing tracks about gang-related violence.
Later that month, Digga D’s freestyle for Mixtape Madness’ Next Up? came out and was widely acclaimed, foreshadowing his rise as a standout MC.
His debut mixtape Double Tap Diaries arrived in May 2019 and reached No.11 on the UK’s albums chart. Pushing the boundaries of drill further than ever, it featured the No.20-charting single No Diet and saw him shortlisted for three AIM Awards in 2020.
In early 2021, following a 15-month prison stint, Digga D unveiled his comeback single Woi. He also teamed up with AJ Tracey on the No.5-charting track Bringing It Back. He released his mixtape Made In The Pyrex in February 2021 and confirmed a headline UK tour for late autumn to support it.
