  • Great tennis

by Jackie on 16/09/2024AO Arena - ManchesterRating: 4 out of 5

Really enjoyed the tennis and the atmosphere in the arena. Had a really good view of the matches from our seats Only downside, terribly slow service at all bars/concession stands I have been in the Arena on previous occasions and service much better(one taking order and payment and another getting goods) They could not cope with the volume of people wanting food/drinks in between matches which meant queues blocking walkways. Not good Good that refillable water stations now avaiable

  • Not Just The Result

    by H0CKEY on 16/09/2024AO Arena - ManchesterRating: 3 out of 5

Went last year and enjoyed it, not so much this year and I'm not just talking about the result. The part of the arena where the tennis is played is great, seats are a plenty, quite steep in some places but for tennis or any other court played game, it's excellent. However there is so much about Manchester Arena that is not so good. Arrival, entrance and security, not an issue. All went perfectly well and I felt safe. Staff were very good, efficient with a smile on their faces. It's the other bits, concession stands, food and drink etc. The offering is pathetic, It's the same food at every outlet, vegetarians might as well not exist, Vegetarians and Vegans are different just in case anyone in the hospitality industry reads these reviews I know these places can charge what they want but the prices yesterday were daylight robbery Then we come to the toilets, the queues were immense and there were less than 16000 in the arena, a concert brings in over 20,000, I can't imagine what it is like then. The queue comes from both sides of the toilet block, that means you cannot get to the sinks afterwards. To be honest you probably would not want to as I saw two blokes who would not wait, using the sinks. Finally, the so called razamataz inside the arena whilst the tennis was playing, just too much and too loud. The brass band were not playing for the tennis, they were playing for themselves, many a time the umpire had to signal them to stop so play could restart. I just want to go and watch tennis, I don't want to have my eardrums burst. I want the crowd to be able to cheer after a good point but they just get drowned out by the band and/or the DJ I know this is what is happening these days at Tennis but it is just not necessary, can't we just enjoy the sport. I imagine it can't be easy for the players either at times

Excellent venue Staff very helpful Will visit again Poor behaviour of player very disappointing

  • Great sport but too noisy!

by TennisFan on 16/09/2024AO Arena - ManchesterRating: 3 out of 5

A good venue, easy to get to and comfortable. A pity Tream GB didn't do well but a great match between Draper and Auger Aliasime. Don't mind a bit of music and interviews between matches but way too noisy for me. Will bring ear defenders next time. Not needed at end changes in my view. Bit disappointed in the food options, nothing healthy at all, merchandising disappointing as well in the venue. No t-shirts, hats or mugs....

  • Tennis nit a menace

Fab fab afternoon and it was well organised also excellent value for money

  • Great tournament but the venue could be better

by Peter on 16/09/2024AO Arena - ManchesterRating: 3 out of 5

As usual, the AO arena in Manchester isn't the best venue. Expensive food and drink and not much choice. Only 20 minutes between games doesn't leave much time for a toilet break and to get refreshments. The concourse gets extremely packed and feels unsafe at times as the bar queues merge with those walking through the concourse in both directions. Disappointingly, the merchandise outlets were mostly closed and not offering much apart from programmes. Which is weird considering the Sunday was sold out, 15000 attending and they would have sold quite a few t-shirts. So good tennis matches but the AO arena is badly designed.

  • Davis cup 2024

by Bruggy on 14/09/2024AO Arena - ManchesterRating: 4 out of 5

Great day out at Manchester Arena. Not been to a Davis cup tournament before and really enjoyed it.I thought the Davis cup was for the youngsters but found a good mix of age groups at the event.Very similar to the ATP finals which was held at the O2 but rather noisier!I would have preferred the music to have been quieter during the end of matches. It is good to talk to people in close vicinity but this was impossible, otherwise a very enjoyable event.

  • Poor venue

by Peter on 14/09/2024AO Arena - ManchesterRating: 1 out of 5

AO arena a very poor venue. No merchandise inside only programmes and AO water bottle. Nothing from LTA. Quarter mile away a pop up fan zone WITH Davis Cup merch. However because of security restrictions no bags no storage anything bought couldn't be taken in. Cramped seating. Food poor no signs saying what's on offer and price so queue for 20 mins to be told no vegan or vegetarian food. Security staff in and around venue very unhelpful. Took 5 of them to block exit doors to make me walk round outside an extra 5 mins in rain because they couldn't be bothered to open doors "there's only 800 of you in"Found another 6 staff outside same doors doing nothing. No wonder GB captain complained about atmosphere Manchester extremely unwelcoming

  • Davis Cup Tennis

by Joken on 14/09/2024AO Arena - ManchesterRating: 3 out of 5

Whilst the tennis was enjoyable the day was spoiled by two significant events. We decided to upgrade and have the lunch at a cost of £51.25 each. I should point out that at no point were we given a copy of a menu prior to arriving. On arrival we were told that the tennis had started and they were unsure if the food could be served. After checking with the kitchen we were shown the menu of either a red meats dish, which neither of us eat or a cheese parcel and as a vegetarian I'm not sure if the pastry was suitable for vegetarians. Also the only dessert on offer was a chocolate brownie, which neither of us had as we are not fans of these and worried that as they had finished serving, they would be dry. Charging over £104 for what we received is totally unacceptable. We then arrived at the block in which we were sitting to be told we could only gain access when the players were changing ends. We totally accepted this and was kept waiting outside for approximately 15-20 minutes. Having been seated close to an entrance/exit it soon became very obvious that people who were wearing lanyards were going in and out of the venue to get drinks whilst the players were still on court. Because of this I will not go to another tennis event or will I recommend one to any of my family or friends. Very disappointed in the meal as we could have eaten at one of the very good restaurants in Manchester with a £100 and not eaten the rubbish that we only consumed due to hunger. I should point out that the only other couple who arrived after us also had the same cheese parcels and were equally unimpressed. Also found the lack of inconsistency regarding being allowed to leave and re-enter the arena very unfair. Someone seriously needs to get their act together.

  • Great tennis - shame about the food and the Merch

Great arena to view Tennis - however, food offering is appalling and the merchandise was non existent.

Had Wonderful time at England versus Argentina . Unbelievable experience

  • Venue!

by Heligirl on 14/09/2024AO Arena - ManchesterRating: 3 out of 5

Security tried to relieve me of my Union Jack style SCARF! Why !? No merchandise available at actual arena so unable to purchase either clothing or any accessory to enable cheering on GB . No WiFi available on one day at entrance so could not access tickets. Was told to walk 15minutes to other entrance to the office . Why is there not a temporary help centre at the Station entrance to assist in such an instance . Missed seven games. Food inadequate and unhealthy. No cider available on the Thursday event ! Travelled at great cost of transport and hotel accommodation for this event .

  • A great venue and well organised

by Middie on 14/09/2024AO Arena - ManchesterRating: 4 out of 5

Great staff and great organisation to get into the venue. No queues for the ladies which is so unusual and the water refilling machines are great. The management had arranged to move some people down from the upper tier to create a better atmosphere which was a brilliant idea. I wish they had done it even more. I would have given 5* if the food options had been healthier and better value.

  • Great tennis

by Harperj on 14/09/2024AO Arena - ManchesterRating: 1 out of 5

I absolutely loved the tennis and the whole experience and ambience. GB were great. The reason why the 1 star is the extortionate price for food and drink when your own food and drink was prohibited???. And people bringing oversized bags with pack lunches and drinks in them( I except that their are dietary needs, but a bottle of Diet Coke is not a dietary need). A person sat by the side of me was having a feast on her own food, and I went for a 2 x Diet Coke and it cost £13.90. There was a lot of people bringing their food(prohibited items) into the venue. No bag searches and no policing of the 'A4' bag rule either. The venue was great though if you went thirsty or starved cos you were on a tight budget.

  • Exciting tennis

by Pearlybabe on 14/09/2024AO Arena - ManchesterRating: 4 out of 5

Davis cup Argentina v GB ...great day of tennis although we didn't win ... the entertainment between matches was great..only downside was the queues to get to the food and drink counters and then the queues at these places also no disabled facilities ..there was a lot of stairs!!!

  • Great day at the tennis

by LMills on 14/09/2024AO Arena - ManchesterRating: 4 out of 5

What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon. Although the arena planning wasn't too good. Over priced food and extortionate drinks prices, I took a water bottle as allowed only to find filled water machines a rarity (keep them topped up please). I'd eaten before going so food wasn't necessary. The matches were intense and I loved every minute, what a great venue for indoor tennis. We had a barmy band to keep morale up, they played loud and were fun, and I was given a free seat upgrade, so a winner all round (except the water and refreshments prices).

  • Excellent venue for tennis

by Vonney on 14/09/2024AO Arena - ManchesterRating: 5 out of 5

Love the seats sat on row D near the front So could see the players & ball close up

  • Great atmosphere and tennis!!!

by Maz on 14/09/2024AO Arena - ManchesterRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the tennis! Easy for me to get there via train. We had great seats opposite the umpires chair and high enough up to see the play clearly. I thought the range of refreshments was very poor and the costs of them and drinks was ridiculous so I didn't purchase any. I thought certain things were not allowed to be taken in yet I saw on Facebook people saying they had brought sandwiches in, rucksacks, reuseable drinks bottles (not plastic ones) ... I did as requested and followed these "rules"... but it's no good if others don't do as requested and are allowed to bring these things in. I loved the atmosphere with the lights and music! Disappointed GB lost both singles to Argentina but the two players who won played very well and deserved their wins. The doubles was a really good match to watch and a win for GB too! I will come again!

  • A brilliant day out
