Mancunian quintet who evolved from raw rockers to groove-laden indie
Coming from Manchester and playing anthemic indie rock will lead to some inevitable comparisons. So it proved for Courteeners, whose arrival in 2008 was seen in some quarters as the city’s fourth wave, after those spearheaded by The Smiths, The Stone Roses and Oasis. The quartet even worked with The Smiths and Morrissey producer Stephen Street on their 2008 debut St. Jude.
In reality, Courteeners’ debut aligned them more closely with other ’00s UK indie movers and shakers like Kaiser Chiefs, The Kooks, Kasabian and Editors. Finding its place among the guitar band boom, it peaked at No.4 in the UK album charts.
The brash Mancunian attitude of their debut was totally absent on the band’s second album, 2010’s Falcon, which found the quartet easing back and opening up their sound with the addition of brass and strings. Courteeners split the difference between the two poles on their third album, 2013’s Anna. Synths and strings added a sweeping 80s-influence to their fourth offering, 2014’s Concrete Love.
When the band returned with Mapping The Rendezvous in 2016, almost all traces of their raw, raucous debut had been smoothed out into a mature pop sheen with an emphasis on danceability. Courteeners followed this path resolutely through to More. Again. Forever., emerging with an even tighter set that delved into electronica and disco grooves.
In 2021, the band confirmed a huge outdoor homecoming show at Emirates Old Trafford with support from Johnny Marr, Blossoms, The Big Moon and Zuzu as well as performances at Scarborough Open Air Theatre and TRNSMT for September 2021. In advance of these appearances, Courteeners revealed a series of warm-up dates in Leicester, Stoke-on-Trent and Halifax. Plus, they announced their eight-date The Whites Of Their Eyes UK tour for November 2021.
In July 2024, Courteeners released the single 'Solitude Of The Night Bus' from their forthcoming album Pink Cactus Café, set for release October 2024, alongside news of an autumn UK tour.

Really enjoyed the DMAs, great to see and hear them live. Courteeners were brilliant. Loud and raucous as expected. Really good atmosphere and vibe from the crowd. Not seen them live before so very glad I have now.
Great value concert with sing-a-long sets from the Mystery Jets and the DMA's. Sound quality for the support groups could have been a bit sharper but did not detract from a very enjoyable experience. Seeing all three acts was fantastic value and the vociferous crowd involvement added to the wow factor.
We came for the DMAs. An amazing Australian band.Great guitar playing and band. CHARISMATIC singer with incredible voice. Two favourites Delete and Silver were delivered superbly. As hood as the vinyl. The crowd loved them. Courteeners were as good as my mate Phil Berry said 10 years ago. Not 19 forever ended on a high. Wife 54th birthday treat.
Absolutely amazing concert, great support acts!. Good venue, only let down by prices of drinks/food! And people smoking INSIDE. Courteeners were unreal!
Absolutely amazing night. Great bands great venue. Brilliant line up sounded amazing
Awesome act, awesome venue and great customer services. I'm partially blind and the team looked after me during the event, enabling me to enjoy the event to the maximum. Superb and thank you
What a fantastic evening, the atmosphere in the venue was off the scale and Courteeners were amazing!
Best band in the world fabulous as always, my 14th time seeing the band and book to see them again a couple of times in November
Don't like brew dog, took me an hour to consume 1st beer, piggy bap was cold n frozen, complained got a cooked cheeseburger, no dark fruits at 6pm, some rude people but lots of amazing humans too. It was fun
