Softly spoken, earnest pop singer-songwriter

Born in Georgia and raised in Massachusetts, Claire Cottrill began making music in her bedroom and posting covers online when she was only 13.

The aspiring singer-songwriter, who first used the moniker DJ Baby Benz on SoundCloud and then took the artist name Clairo, got her first taste of fame in 2017 when she uploaded a homemade video for Pretty Girl to YouTube that went viral. The song was later recorded as part of volume three of The Le Sigh compilation, which highlights female-identifying and non-binary artists and benefits the transgender law center.

Later that year, Clairo revealed another hugely successful track, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, cheekily named after she’d eaten a bag while recording the demo.

After supporting artists like Dua Lipa and Khalid on tour in 2018, she released her debut studio album Immunity in 2019. Co-produced by Clairo with Rostam (Vampire Weekend, Haim), it was the result of years of musical experimentation. Featuring songs like the breakup lament Bags, the emotional electro-pop ballad Closer To You and the same-sex love anthem Sofia, the album received critical acclaim for her fully formed sound and vision.

In 2020, Clairo began working on material for her sophomore record, plus she as a side project she formed the band Shelly with friends from Syracuse University.

Following the lead single Blouse, Clairo’s second album Sling co-produced by Jack Antonoff (Lorde, Taylor Swift) came out in July 2021. She announced a UK and Ireland tour in January 2022 as well as an initiative with SafeTour and Calling All Crows.

Clairo has partnered with SafeTour and Calling All Crows to provide a safe and harassment-free concert experience. She is integrating a dedicated representative from Calling All Crows into her touring team who will respond to requests for support through a text helpline and proactively canvass each concert, while providing messaging and educational support. Together, SafeTour and Calling All Crows will provide sexual harassment prevention and response training to the full band, crew and interested venue staff to create a safe and inclusive environment on the road.

About the initiative, Clairo said, "Everyone deserves a resource and everyone deserves to enjoy the show in peace. I want the audience to know that there is someone who will listen and believe them at every show."
