About

West London punks with a fondness for classic rock n' roll

Chubby And The Gang landed with a thump, definitively answering the age-old question, “What would The Ramones have sounded like if they’d grown up in West London?” Fronted by “Chubby” Charles Manning Walker, the five-piece fuses socially aware hardcore punk with foot-to-the-floor rock, roll n’ soul, a sound and purpose that suggests Royal Headache, Billy Bragg and The Clash dumped into a nutribullet.

Manning grew up in West London, the son of two dyed-in-the-wool punks, with frantic rhythms and music with a mission embedded in his DNA. After years playing in hardcore bands, Manning formed Chubby And The Gang with guitarists Ethan Stahl and Tom Hardwick, drummer Joe McMahon and bassist Luke Austin, who was replaced early on with Maegan Brooks Mills.

The band recorded their aptly titled debut Speed Kills with F***ed Up drummer Jonah Falco producing. The album came out in early 2020 to almost instant critical acclaim – Pitchfork, The Guardian, Stereogum and Rolling Stone joining a chorus of universal praise. Songs such as Trouble (You Were Always On My Mind) and the heartbroken fury of Grenfell Forever showed the band had bags of heart and more than one speed, while All Along The Uxbridge Road showcased their ear-pinning velocity in all its glory.

Shortly after, the band signed to Partisan Records and set about work on their follow-up album, although progress was curtailed by the Coronavirus pandemic. In early 2021, they were confirmed as one of the main acts for Dot To Dot 2021 in Bristol and Nottingham. That April, Chubby And The Gang announced an extensive UK tour for November and December 2021.
