Scottish singer-songwriter who has swapped the streets for the big stage
Callum Beattie rekindles the blue-collar, working-class pop torch lit by Scottish strummers of yesteryear, yet gives it a contemporary sheen.
Born in Edinburgh but raised in Musselburgh, East Lothian by his single-parent dad who grind away each day to put food on the table for Callum and his two siblings, Beattie was brought up listening to classic albums from the greats like Rod Stewart, Elton John, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, and Bruce Springsteen.
It sparked an ambition in him to become a musician like them, so pestered his dad to buy him a guitar at the age of 14. He did, and Beattie began writing songs. Music became his primary focus after leaving school with no qualifications, so gigged around local pubs and busked on the street, building a word-of-mouth reputation. Taking his hard graft to T In The Park one year, Beattie wore the hi-vis jacket and pretending to be security to sneak in, handing out demos and even crashing the stage during R.E.M.'s headline performance in front of 70,000 people.
But his heart-on-the-sleeve, salt-of-the-earth songwriting connected with his fans, who shared similar life experiences. Releasing his first single 'We Are Stars' in 2017, Beattie relocated to London then Berlin, gaining more and more experiences to put into song. 2019's 'Boris Brexit Song' went viral, with Beattie going on to perform at Glastonbury Festival that year.
In 2020, Beattie's debut album People Like Us broke into the Scottish album charts, with his stories of ordinary people's struggle and strife resonating around the country. 'Salamander Street' – a personal story of a friend that turned to prostitution – reached number six in the Scottish charts and broke Beattie through to the top 50 of the UK download charts too.
'Heart Stops Beating' was the first offering from Beattie's sophomore album Vandals which came out in 2023, topping the Scottish album charts and establishing Callum as one of Scotland's premiere talents - maintaining his status as an independent artist all the while.
Beattie's effortless blend of emotional storytelling and indie folk with a tinge of rock propelled him towards his biggest show yet. In 2025, the singer-songwriter announce an enormous show at Glasgow's OVO Hydro for November that year. After the announcement was made, Beattie admitted on social media: "I'm an emotional wreck - I just have no words."

One word to sum the Callum Bettie concert. "Brilliant"
3rd time seeing Calumn. Different set including Abba song. Superb entertainer and so down to earth with it. Defo bigger things next year.
Callum Beattie, whom we discovered a year ago and have seen him perform twice, is an absolute breath of fresh air to the music industry. We were blown away by his song writing, unafraid to sing about real life issues, enabling people to relate to his music. His personality his huge, friendly and humorous. What a guy!
Callum is an excellent artist that has grafted so hard to be where he is today. Finding his amazing manager & band members brought his to where he is today. A humble incredibly kind down to earth guy who loves & appreciates his fan as much as we love ❤️ him. His concerts are so energetic, heart felt, beautiful moments. I've seen him loads of times & will continue to do so. Just awaiting the Christmas ticket drop. Keep doing what you do buddy. 😘🤩❤️✌️
I got his 2 albums and there ain't a bad song on either of them. Seen him half a dozen times now and hoping to get tickets today for Dec today. Met him 3 times after his gigs, but he's gotten too big now to do his meet & greets. The band & Dave is a well matched team. You can really feel in each performance how much this all means to them. You come away on a high as the energy they project is truly magical. Wish them every success & just hoping I will see them bring it home to and do an Edinburgh Castle gig one day soon.
Saw him last night at Haslemere Fringe (Fri 5th July 2024), excellent!!! What a great sound from the whole Group. Sounds a bit like the Stereophonics....especially the track "EYES ON YOU". I'm now looking to see when he will come to the South of UK again. The track "Eyes on You"......I haven't managed to this anywhere yet. Is it a new track...could be a potential hit if it is :)

Everytime I go to see Callum, he is a little better than the previous time! He is a natural showman and boy can he put on a show! He never stops and his energy and love of what he is doing, he really does deserve all the success he is enjoying and I'm really looking forward to his next show already! On a side note, Wee James, his support was fabulous too and I'm sure he has a bright future too!
