About Brian McKnight
Brian McKnight is an RnB artist who has released 13 studio albums since 1992. Whether writing and producing his own material or collaborating with major RnB artists, McKnight has quietly done his own thing while drawing inspiration from legends like Stevie Wonder, James Ingram and Marvin Gaye.
McKnight was raised in New York in a musical family. He sung in a gospel choir while exploring other musical genres and learned to play several instruments. As a teenager he formed a band and began performing his own material at local venues. After sending out numerous demos to various record companies, he was immediately signed by Mercury president Ed Eckstine, son of Billy Eckstine, and his 1992 single, The Way Love Goes, peaked at No.11 in the RnB charts. It was Love Is, his duet with Vanessa Williams, that peaked at No.3 in the Billboard Pop Charts and helped introduce him to a wider audience.
In 1995 he released the album, I Remember You, and in 1997, Anytime, which was produced by Sean Puffy Combs and featured the club hit, You Should Be Mine. This was followed up with a Christmas album, Bethlehem, and a year later he released Back at One, which sold over three million copies. In 2001 he released Superhero, in which he experimented with rock music. The 2003 album, U Turn, consisted of ballads. After taking some time out to play basketball for the ABA's Ontario Warriors, McKnight released the album Gemini in 2005. Six more albums followed since then, with his latest being 2017's Genesis.
McKnight has announced he's returning with his 14th album, Just Me, in 2019. This fan-pleasing collection includes over 22 songs, with several brand new studio tracks written specifically for this project.
