Norweigan indie-pop sensation

Get the album Wachito Rico here

Born in Bergen to Chilean parents who emigrated to Norway in the ’80s, Nicolás Pablo Rivera Muñoz, aka Boy Pablo, has emerged as a force to be reckoned with on the indie-pop scene. Thanks to his father and brother, both multi-instrumentalists, encouraging him to experiment with GarageBand, he started creating music as a boy. Inspired by artists like Tyler, The Creator as well as Tame Impala, The Beatles and many more, Muñoz also taught himself production skills on a MacBook, putting together digital snippets in his childhood bedroom.

He went to the private music school Kongshaug Musikkgymnas in Os, where he was part of a close-knit circle of friends and founded the band Boy Pablo in late 2015. The moniker, which has also become his stage name and alter-ego, loosely translates to “handsome boy” in Spanish.

In 2016, he wrote and produced a string of singles – Flowers, Beach House Interlude and Ur Phone – plus started performing live as a warm-up band and at festivals. Boy Pablo came into the spotlight in 2017 after releasing the outsiders’ anthem Everytime and an accompanying video that was shot on a fjord. It went viral via Reddit discussions and on YouTube’s recommended videos.

Due to the success of Everytime, Muñoz launched 777, a YouTube channel-turned-independent record label, later that year and released the six-song EP Roy Pablo followed by another EP Soy Pablo in early 2018 that featured the hit Losing You and other lovelorn-themed tracks. In spring and summer, the band embarked on a sold-out, 39-date world tour.

The line-up of Boy Pablo consists of Muñoz on vocals and guitar with mates Gabriel Muñoz on lead guitar, Henrik Åmdal on bass guitar, Eric Tryland on keyboards and Sigmund Vestrheim on drums.

Their debut studio album Wachito Rico arrived in late 2020 and early 2021 saw them stream the show Wachito Rico: A Digital Live Experience while chatting to fans around the world during three live watch parties.

In May 2021 Boy Pablo unveiled the EP Tuck Me In and soon after announced a pair of UK dates in Manchester and London in September 2021 as part of their second headlining world tour.

Boy Pablo is playing two dates in the UK on 16 and 18 September 2021 in support of the new album Wachito Rico.

Boy Pablo is playing shows at O2 Ritz Manchester and St John-at-Hackney Church in London in 2021.

Tickets for Boy Palbo’s tour dates are on sale now.
