Southern California songwriter and producer who founded the Evgle label

Evocative storytelling is the driving force behind the music of Blxst (pronounced Blast). Often compared to the late Nate Dogg and Roddy Ricch, he’s carved out his own niche in the rap world.

Blxst, born Matthew Burdette, grew up in South Central LA. His mother regularly listened to Ms. Lauryn Hill albums and his uncle, a former rapper, first introduced him to producing music.

When he was 14, Blxst moved away from the problems of inner city life to live in the suburbs of California’s Inland Empire with his dad. He got into skateboarding there and even flirted with the idea of becoming a world-class pro – until he broke his ankle.

Shortly after high school, Blxst began his rap career with TIU Muzic, a collective that also taught him the importance of building a brand and utilising social media.

In 2014, he produced his first single: Do Yo Gudda (Remix) by Hitta J3 with Kendrick Lamar, YG and Problem. The following year, Blxst founded his own record label Evgle and sold self-designed T-shirts with a scowling bald eagle, before releasing his solo debut track Who Would’ve Thought in 2016. During the next two years, he entrenched himself in the scene collaborating with artists like Mozzy, Bino Rideaux and Jack Harlow as well as working on his videography skills.

A steady stream of singles arrived in 2018 before Blxst unveiled his breakout hit Hurt in 2019. Later that year, he also released a collaborative EP with Rideaux called Sixtape.

With five years of honing his sound and visuals under his belt, Blxst’s solo debut album No Love Lost came out in partnership with Red Bull Records. Exploring themes of heartbreak and unrequited love but with an overriding message of hope, he self-produced every song as well as created the artwork and self-edited his music videos.

In early 2021, Blxst released the two-track EP Just For Clarity and that summer revealed Sixtape 2 with Rideaux. To support these projects, he also announced a one-off show at London’s Electric Ballroom for 25 October 2021.

Blxst is coming to the UK for one night only on 25 October 2021.

Blxst is set to appear at London’s Electric Ballroom in October 2021.

Tickets for Blxst’s 2021 London date are on sale now.
