Legendary hip hop duo Black Star return to the UK for the first time since 2017

Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) & Talib Kweli make a long awaited return to London, Manchester, and Birmingham this November – their first shows in over a decade outside the capital.

Iconic rap duo Black Star – made up of Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) and Talib Kweli – return to the UK this November for three nights, celebrating 30 years in music, performing hits from their debut album Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star and sophomore album No Fear Of Time.

On Tuesday 11 November, the New York duo land in London for their first headline show in the capital in 7 years, taking over the iconic O2 Academy Brixton. They’ll then head to Manchester’s O2 Victoria Warehouse on Saturday 15 November, before closing out the run at Birmingham’s O2 Academy on Sunday 16. These will be their first Manchester and Birmingham shows in over a decade.

Two of hip hop’s most revered and acclaimed solo artists in their own right, teamed up as Black Star in 1998 with their seminal debut Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star. This project further solidified their standing as flag-bearers for socially conscious rap, blending sharp political commentary, Afrocentric philosophy, and poetic wordplay over soulful, jazz-inflected beats. Their chemistry, lyrical depth, and commitment to truth-telling made the album a cult classic and a blueprint for generations of underground artists.

After years of solo success, Black Star reunited in 2022 with No Fear of Time, produced by Madlib, reminding the world that their voices still hit just as hard.

So glad I grabbed a ticket for Black Star! Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli were phenomenal, such a great performance it was not to be missed. Birmingham was very grateful that they blessed us with their greatness…still buzzing!

Fantastic gig. Old school hip hop at its best. 30 years of rap skills on show.
