Acclaimed indie folk quartet built around the emotionally raw songs of Adrianne Lenker

Big Thief’s earliest steps came at Berklee College of Music, where singer-songwriter Adrianne Lenker met guitarist Buck Meek. The two reconvened accidentally in New York when they ended up on the same bill and began to gig around the city as a duo, releasing two Eps in 2014.

While Lenker signed to Saddle Creek as a solo artist, she and Meek concurrently joined up with Matt Oleartchik and James Krivchenia to form Big Thief. The fledgling band released their debut – also on Saddle Creek – Masterpiece in 2016 to a flurry of rave reviews, particularly praising Lenker’s emotionally raw and affecting songwriting.

Barely a year later, the quartet returned with Capacity, which followed its predecessor both in its often-startling vulnerability and its omnipresence on end-of-year lists. Lenker released her second solo record Abysskiss in 2018, while Meek also released his self-titled solo debut. Big Thief’s third album followed hot on their heels the following year. U.F.O.F proved yet another critical darling and saw Lenker widely heralded as a remarkable songwriter.

Just five months later, Big Thief released yet another album, Two Hands. It was a rawer, looser set of songs than U.F.O.F, recorded almost immediately in its aftermath.

In 2021, Buck Meek released his second solo album Two Saviors. In March of that year, Big Thief confirmed that their fifth album was almost complete. A Big Thief UK tour was announced for March 2022.
