About
The Puerto Rican artist credited with reinventing Latin music
With his distinctive vocal style, experimental production and evocative reggaeton backdrops, Bad Bunny is one of the biggest stars of our time.
Born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, Bad Bunny grew up immersed in reggaeton and Latin trap, listening to the likes of Daddy Yankee, Tego Calderon and Hector Lavoe. Whilst studying and working in a supermarket on the side, the future rapper, singer and producer began to hone his unique take on his favourite genres; blending moody trap beats with a deep, slurred delivery and uploading the results to SoundCloud.
In 2017, Bad Bunny released his hit single ‘Soy Peor’, which paved the way for a lucrative appearance alongside J Balvin on Cardi B’s ‘I Like It’ (2018). Proving the perfect introduction to Bad Bunny’s defiance when it comes to any language barriers (to this day, he sings almost exclusively in Spanish) the track topped the Billboard Hot 100 and propelled him to international pop stardom virtually overnight. Since then, Bad Bunny’s career has been marked by countless accomplishments (including a three-year stint as the most-streamed artist globally on Spotify), record-breaking arena tours and an unwavering determination to reinvent Latin urban music for an international audience.
Fusing reggaeton and Latin trap with punk and rock influences, albums such as YHLQMDLG and El Último Tour del Mundo have pushed cultural boundaries to garner a loyal following, with the latter becoming the first all-Spanish-language album to top the Billboard 200. Proudly Puerto Rican, Bad Bunny is celebrated as a modern and rebellious figure in the Latin music scene, often using his music as a vessel to critique colonialism and gentrification, whilst also challenging cultural norms like machismo. Taken from YHLQMDLG, the music video for ‘Yo Perreo Sola’ (a modern reggaeton anthem that translates to ‘I twerk alone’) sees Bad Bunny dressed in full drag, advocating for gender expression and women’s autonomy.
In 2025, Bad Bunny released DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, signifying a return to his Puerto Rican roots. Blending reggaeton with traditional genres like plena, jíbaro, and salsa, the album features fan-favourites like ‘DtMF’ and ‘BAILE INoLVIDABLE’, as well as collaborations with fellow Puerto Rican artists such as RaiNao and Omar Courtz. Exploring themes of nostalgia, love and political identity, the album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with all 17 tracks appearing on the Billboard Hot 100, making him the first Latin artist to achieve over 100 chart entries. Stirring much anticipation amongst fans ahead of his upcoming tour, the album underscores Bad Bunny’s innate ability to produce music that’s rooted in cultural identity yet resonates across borders.
