About
Twice Grammy-nominated masters of metalcore
Founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 2003, the members of metalcore five-piece August Burns Red began to record music while they were still students in high school. They recorded their debut EP Looks Fragile After All in 2004, and shortly after welcomed a change to their line-up and released their first full-length album Thrill Seeker the following year.
Although their fierce progressive sound won them a loyal following in the alternative scene, it took 10 more years and five more albums – 2007’s Messengers, 2009’s Constellations, 2011’s Leveler, 2012’s August Burns Red Presents: Sleddin’ Hill and 2013’s Rescue & Restore – before they broke into the mainstream.
Their seventh album Found In Far Away Places came out in 2015 and not only climbed to the No.9 spot on Billboard’s Top 200 albums list, but the single Identity earned August Burns Red their first Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance. The momentum continued with the arrival of Phantom Anthem in 2017, which broke into Billboard’s top 20 while scoring a second Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance, this time for the song Invisible Enemy.
ABR’s current line-up is made up of Jake Luhrs on vocals, JB Brubaker on lead guitar, Brent Rambler on rhythm guitar, Matt Greiner on drums and Dustin Davidson on bass.
Over the years the quintet have had a tradition of celebrating the festive season metallic style, so in 2019 they turned things up a notch by launching the inaugural Christmas Burns Red Festival in their native Lancaster.
In April 2020, August Burns Red released their ninth studio album Guardians, which spawned the singles Defender and Bones. The band announced a massive UK co-headline tour with fellow metal heavyweights Bury Tomorrow, supported by Miss May I and Thornhill, in October and November 2022.
