About

Starring Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas

Cinderella, the biggest panto ever to grace Winter Gardens Blackpool, will lift its curtain at the Opera House for Christmas 2021. The producers behind Hairspray and Priscilla Queen Of The Desert are the masterminds of this large-scale production set to be the first pantomime at the venue in over 60 years.

Not only does Cinderella feature eye-popping special effects and dazzling costumes, but it also boasts a star-studded cast. At the helm of the line-up is Strictly Come Dancing head judge and dance diva Shirley Ballas, who brings her ballroom sparkle and fancy footwork to the role of the Fairy Godmother.

Cinderella’s producers have also lined up Jennie Dale, who plays Captain Captain in the hit CBeebies show Swashbuckle, as the Wicked Stepmother. Having starred as the Witch in 2019’s CBeebies pantomime Hansel & Gretel, the actress is no stranger to fiendishly fun roles.

In a fairy tale kingdom far, far away, a young servant girl named Cinderella is eager to go to a ball with all the other maidens of the land in order to meet the handsome prince – if only she can get past her Wicked Stepmother and the Ugly Sisters. Of course, with a fabulous Fairy Godmother on her side, anything is possible.

One of the most popular pantomime stories ever, Cinderella has roots dating back centuries – with possibly the oldest version of the tale traced to China from a book written around 850 to 860 AD. Today it’s a Christmas favourite known for being laugh-out-loud funny from the first minute to the last.

In addition to a soundtrack of hit songs, the Blackpool production features all the characters audiences love including Cinderella, Prince Charming, the Fairy Godmother, the Wicked Stepmother and the Ugly Sisters – plus Buttons, a servant in the stepfamily’s household, and Dandini, the prince’s male servant.

From pumpkins to glass slippers and much more, there’s fun for all the family in this spectacular panto of the classic rags to riches children’s story.
