About

Mellow modern-day troubadour with an unmistakable deep bass-baritone voice

Hertfordshire-born George Ezra, whose full name is George Ezra Barnett, made his first appearance on stage at the age of 13, singing the female part in the Wheatus song Teenage Dirtbag. Obsessed by Bob Dylan, his love of music grew steadily as a teenager. He learned to play bass guitar and started writing songs, all the while developing his distinctive folk-pop sound.

By the time he was 21, Ezra had signed a record deal with Columbia, released the EP Did You Hear the Rain? and took fifth place on the BBC Sound Of 2014 list.

He truly burst onto the scene in the summer of 2014 when his single Budapest reached No.3 in the UK and charted in many other countries. His debut album Wanted On Voyage arrived soon after and spawned several other hits including Cassy O', Blame It On Me and Barcelona. Not only did it reach No.1 on the UK albums chart and go four times platinum, but it also became the third best-selling album of that year.

In 2015, Ezra made his US debut as the opening act on Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour tour – which included a performance at New York City's Madison Square Garden – and then he provided support during Hozier's North American tour dates.

He launched his own podcast in early 2018 called George Ezra & Friends, on which he’s welcomed the likes of Smith along with Ed Sheeran, Elton John, Rag’n’Bone Man, Tom Jones, Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis and Niall Horan.

Ezra's follow-up album Staying At Tamara's was released in March 2018 and featured the top 10 singles ParadiseShotgun  and Hold My Girl. Named after the Airbnb host where he'd stayed in Barcelona, the collection was also inspired by his travels to the Isle of Skye as well as a cow shed in north Wales and a pig farm in Norfolk. Like its predecessor, Staying At Tamara's reached No.1 on the UK album charts plus became the second biggest album of the year.

In 2019, Ezra played several huge UK arena dates in spring, appeared at Glastonbury and Latitude festivals in summer, and performed a couple of special shows at London's Royal Albert Hall in autumn. Having been nominated multiple times over the years, he also took home his first BRIT Award for British Male Solo Artist.

Ezra appeared in a solo campfire performance at Worthy Farm as part of the line-up for Glastonbury's global livestream in May 2021. In August 2021, he announced a special performance at London's Finsbury Park with special guests Blossoms, Holly Humberstone and more for 17 July 2022.
