About

The Brighton-based metal giants

Renowned for their intense music and live performances, Architects got their start in 2004. Formed in Brighton by twin brothers Dan and Tom Searle, the metalcore band was initially called Inharmonic and then Counting The Days, before becoming Architects.

Within their first two years and after the 2006 release of their debut album Nightmares, the line-up changed greatly. Architects’ original vocalist and bassist departed, with the group settling into a quintet comprised of the siblings plus Tim Hillier-Brook on guitar, Alex Dean on base and Sam Carter as the frontman.

Architects released their second album Ruin in 2007. Over the next five years, they slogged away on the road touring Europe, North America and beyond while supporting bands like Suicide Silence, Parkway Drive and August Burns Red. They also released three more albums: 2009’s Hollow Crown, 2011’s The Here And Now and 2012’s Daybreaker.

In 2012, Hillier-Brook left to pursue other projects, with former Sylosis guitarist Josh Middleton recruited as a touring guitarist.

It wasn’t until their sixth album, 2014’s Lost Forever // Lost Together, that Architects received more widespread recognition and chart success with the record peaking at No.16 in the UK.

In 2015, Architects made touring guitarist Adam Christianson a permanent member. The following year the band was dealt a tragic blow. After recording and releasing their No.15-charting album All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, Tom Searle, who had been battling skin cancer, passed away.

Determined to carry on, Architects released the standalone single titled Doomsday in 2017, as well as added Middleton to the permanent line-up as lead guitarist. That year All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us was named Best Album at the inaugural Heavy Music Awards in London.

Architects channeled their grief and sadness into 2018’s cathartic record Holy Hell. To support it, the band toured the UK in early 2019 joined by Beartooth and Polaris.

In early 2021, Architects scored their first UK No.1 album with For Those That Wish To Exist. Written across the preceding two years, the album expanded the band’s post-metalcore sound while adding orchestral strings, horns and choirs. It also featured guest spots from Royal Blood’s Mike Kerr, Parkway Drive’s Winston McCall and Biffy Clyro’s Simon Neil.

To support the album, Architects announced a UK arena tour that was rescheduled to May 2022. Further Architects UK dates were confirmed for October 2022 in Coventry, Oxford and Newcastle.

Ahead of the release of their tenth album The Classic Symptoms of a Broken Spirit in October 2022, Architects announced a very special underplay show at CHALK in Brighton.
