About Antony and Cleopatra

Antony and Cleopatra
William Shakespeare

Two charismatic and powerful leaders find in each other an irresistible and yet unattainable equal.  Caught between desire and duty their affair will shake the foundations of the known world.

RSC Artistic Director Michael Boyd directs Darrell D'Silva and Kathryn Hunter in the title roles.

A tempestuous love affair struggles to survive as power politics and the demands of Ancient Rome and Egypt threaten to tear these two great leaders apart.

"Gregory Doran's magnificent production brings piercing intelligence to the central relationship...Patrick Stewart's superb Antony and Harriet Walter's mesmerising Cleopatra. The real triumph of the production lies in allowing us to see Shakespeare's gaudy epic with fresh unclouded eyes" - The Guardian

"An absolutely storming Antony and Cleopatra" - Sunday Times

"Burning with passion and intelligence, aims straight at the heart and hits it" - Daily Telegraph

RSC Associate Artist Harriet Walter plays Cleopatra. Her recent RSC roles include Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing and Lady Macbeth opposite Antony Sher. RSC Honorary Associate Artist Patrick Stewart plays Antony, and also appears as Prospero in Rupert Goold's production of The Tempest.
