The shock rock pioneer announces the Too Close For Comfort UK tour for October 2024
Before he became the dark prince of â70s shock rock, Alice Cooper was Vincent Damon Furnier, a kid born in Detroit and raised there until the age of 11, when his family moved to Phoenix.
While attending Cortez High School, Furnier and his mates played parodies of Beatlesâ songs in a talent show, calling themselves the Earwigs. Enjoying it so much, they formed a band for real named the Spiders. A few years later, in search of a more gimmicky identity, they decided to go by the wholesome-sounding âAlice Cooperâ and found inspiration for their look from the movie What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? It starred Bette Davis in caked on makeup with black liner smudged beneath her eyes.
Their debut album Pretties For You arrived in 1969. As a band, Alice Cooper released six more albums between 1970 and 1973. They became famous for their 1972 track Schoolâs Out, which went to No.1 on the UK singles chart, with the album of the same name reaching No.2 on the US charts. Their last album, 1973âs Billion Dollar Babies, was groupâs biggest selling record, landing at No.1 in both the UK and US and spawning such hits as No More Mr. Nice Guy, Elected and Hello Hooray.
In 1975, however, Alice Cooper the band broke up and Furnier legally adopted the name as his own, launching his solo career shortly after with the concept album Welcome To My Nightmare. Its songs played in sequence all formed a journey through the nightmares of a child called Steven. His 1976 follow-up album, Alice Cooper Goes To Hell, was a continuation of Stevenâs story.
Over the next 35 years, Cooper released 17 more albums. Among his most well-known songs are Under My Wheels, Poison, Feed My Frankenstein, Desperado and Only Women Bleed.
Cooper also became famous for his grand theatrical hard rock performances. Influenced by everything from horror movies to vaudeville, his shows are always full of dark humour. On stage Cooper has hung himself, chopped off his head, gotten zapped in an electric chair, paraded around with a gigantic boa constrictor and much more.
In 2011, Cooper â alongside the surviving members of the original band â were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. These band members also contributed to his follow-up solo album Welcome 2 My Nightmare, released later that year.
He was the subject of the biographical documentary Super Duper Alice Cooper in 2015, and it won a Canadian Screen Award for Best Feature Length Documentary.
In 2017, Cooper released his 20th solo album Paranormal, featuring guest appearances from U2 drummer Larry Mullen, Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover and ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons.
A tireless performer, Cooper has travelled the world countless times and continues to tour regularly, taking his dark and horror-themed shows all over. In 2019, he brought his Olâ Black Eyes Is Back tour to the UK to mark 50 years since the release of his debut album Pretties For You.
In February 2021, Cooper revealed his 21st solo album Detroit Stories about his origins in music and the history of hard rock in his hometown. Produced by Bob Ezrin (Lou Reed, Aerosmith, Phish) and containing contributions from former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley, it peaked at No.4 on the UK albums chart.
Later in 2021, Alice Cooper announced a UK co-headlining tour with The Cult, set for May and June 2022.
Cooper returns to the UK in October 2024, calling at Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds before two nights at London's Eventim Apollo.

I have seen some top, top acts in my time (including Alice previously) but there has always been something about the support line up (or the headliner for that matter) that has not been 100%. In this instance all three acts were off the scale brilliant. The Meffs were loud, energetic and passionate; a classy in your face take on original aggressive punk music but much better, well constructed and superbly delivered. Lily covers the stage like Angus Young and never slows down. So good I would go and seee them on their own tour in 2025. Primal Scream delivered their set perfectly and it was brilliant to see them standing right by our seats to watch and support Alice after their slot. Alice Cooper was Alice Cooper at his best; a tremendous stage show (again); all the hits and wonderful visuals and sound. Possibly the first concert in my many over 45 years that I smiled all the way through. Absolutely FIRST CLASS!
One of the best concerts I have seen. The sound was absolutely perfect and Alice's vocals were spot on. The band were excellent. A great entertainment experience as it is every time you see an Alice concert.
Alice and the band were Amaaaazing as usual - fabbo vocals from the main man, crunching guitar work from Ryan, Nita and Tommy, brill bass from Beasto and the best drummer in the world Glen plus great dancing from Mrs Coop. Two fantastic nights of the best live music in London - roll on the next time!!!!
Great show, even better than I expected, brilliant musicians, and all the best known songs, and good theatrics, thoroughly enjoyed the show, long may he continue to tour and entertain us.
seen alice loads of times over 40 years . last nights concert was one of the best vocals he has ever done . the mix on the guitars was just as good . a fantastic concert
I have never been a fan, but the showmanship and musical talent was incredible and made it really memorable and highly enjoyable evening
It was amazing and he is still a great showman đ§ââď¸đ§đ§ââď¸
Seen Alice numerous times just gets better and better great entertainment
I saw him in Manchester in 2017 and his stage show was superb, so when I booked for this show I was hoping for more of the same. Sadly that wasn't the case and while I still enjoyed the concert it didn't have quite the same magic this time. But I loved the Primal Scream set so that helped!
