About

The electronica pioneers add more UK dates

AIR began in Paris in 1995 when two young, smart graduates released a song dedicated to the modern architectural pioneer Le Corbusier. With a couple of years, Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin had rocketed to the stars with their sleek and sexy brand of cosmic chamber pop and electronica.

The duo released their debut album Moon Safari in 1998, which featured the hits 'Sexy Boy', 'All I Know' and 'La femme d'argent', and became a vital example of turn-of-the-millennium electronica, ambient and downtempo styles. In 2023, to celebrate the seminal debut's 25th anniversairy, Dunckel and Godin announced that in 2024 they would perform the album in its entirety, adding further UK dates due to demand, including a night at London's Royal Albert Hall.

AIR have also released albums such as the electronic-heavy 10 000 Hz Legend (2001) and Talkie Walkie (2004); the latter included the song 'Alone in Kyoto', which featured on the Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation soundtrack after the band had also composed the score of the director's The Virgin Suicides in 1999.

  • Amazing band and venue

From the first chord Air set a spark around the Piece Hall. Sound was amazing, set spectacular, all in all a super slick performance.

  • Air are exceptional

Have waited 26 years to see Air perform Moon Safari. They were exceptional. Just sublime. Feel privileged to have finally see them perform. Just incredible. Thanks to TK Maxx for sponsoring. The venue too was excellent. Security were friendly & helpful. One of the greatest gigs I will see in my life

  • Airport style security

by Matt on 28/06/2024Rating: 3 out of 5

I thought the venue was great, but what let it down was the airport level security, I read that you could take your own food and drink in, but you couldn't take anything in not even a bag bigger then a handbag. I don't think these stricked conditions where clear enough when booking, as lots where being turned away. Beer was £7 a pint, and non alcoholic beer was advertised as a pint for £5 but what you got was bottle size and not a pint at all.

  • Studio quality sound at an outdoor gig

    by M G on 28/06/2024Rating: 5 out of 5

We were a bit worried about how well a band like AIR would translate to a live situation let alone an open air show but we needn't have. Amazing performance, studio level sound although a female vocalist was perhaps missing, the stage set up and lighting was first rate and the location was excellent. Not been to a summer session at Southampton before but am actually going to go back later this week for another band!

  • Disappointed

by Logicvito on 28/06/2024Rating: 2 out of 5

Air moonsafari is without a doubt a monumental album. Awsome. The gig, poor. They played mostly to backing tracks and didnt even soeak to us the audience. They didn't even play "All I need" With full lyrics or melody! Arguably the best track on the album. Maybe there's a copyright issue ??? How can you say you're performing the album when you actually don't? I actually bought my tickets to hear this song. Although I never expected Beth to be there herself but thought theybwould get a female singer in for it. I still love them and the album but very disappointed overall. We also were not allowed to buy a drink without paying for a mixer ! What is this about? Oh more money obviously. We can't even buy a drink we want. Shocking!

  • It was almost retro !

by Mickrick on 27/06/2024Rating: 5 out of 5

One of our favourite albums came alive at the magnificent Piece Hall last night. Air certainly let their music do the talking - no fuss, no gimmicks (other than the brilliant light box) just big tunes played superbly. Thank you.

  • Rewarding experience

by Adrian on 27/06/2024Rating: 5 out of 5

I have been listening to the beautiful sounds of Air for over 20 years, owning 90% of their albums but never really knowing much about them. When we spotted they were touring not a million miles away I jumped at the chance and bought tickets. The concert was all very slick, the white BOX stood dominantly on the stage. Air came on around 8:45pm and kicked the evening off playing Moon Safari in full. The lighting and visuals were mesmerising, I would go as far as to say beautiful. It was fantastic hearing these tracks I have grown up with live, and I would definitely see them again given the opportunity. The concert was at Peace Hall in Halifax, an outdoor area and sun shone brightly, staff were fantastic. It was a hot evening and being at the front, little chance of getting out for water, so then continuously walked up and down handing out water. A very enjoyable evening, highly recommended.
