About Above & Beyond
Above & Beyond are a dance music group hailing from the UK, with Jono Grant, Paavo Siljamäki and Tony McGuinness in their line-up. Bursting onto the music scene in 2000, the band own two key dance music production labels, Anjunadeep and Ajunabeats, and regularly host radio shows. They ranked at number 17 in the Top 100 DJs poll for 2013 by DJ Magazine, and their recent hits, Mariana Trench and Walter White, reached the Beatport Trance top spot, being picked up by international DJs such as Ferry Corset and Armin Van Buuren.
The band were formed when Grant and Siljamäki met at university. Discovering a mutual love of electronica, they rapidly began to collaborate musically, and set up their first label in 1999, releasing Volume One under Anjunabeats. This first release received widespread attention across the UK dance scene and was rapidly picked up by leading DJs such as Paul Oakenfold, Pete Tong, Paul Van Dyk and Judge Jules. After this success, the duo released a series of remixes and singles under two alter-egos, Dirt Devils and Free State, before McGuinness joined the group. Their remix of Home by Chakra hit the top spot in the UK's club charts, thanks in part to heavy exposure by BBC Radio 1.
The band's reputation soon spread, with remixes being requested from various dance and trance labels. Key releases during this time included Everytime You Need Me by Fragma, Ordinary World by Aurora, The Sound of Goodbye by Perpetuous Dream, and In the City by Adamski. To date, their most famous remix is for the single What It Feels Like For A Girl by Madonna. Above & Beyond have also collaborated with Zoe Johnston, Carrie Skipper, Ashley Tomberlin and Richard Bedford, as well as remixing tracks by Tomcraft, Madonna, Motorcycle, Dido, Dido and Britney Spears. Their single No One On Earth featuring Zoe Johnston, received the Tune of the Year 2004 accolade by Armin Van Buuren, and their 2006 debut album, Tri State, got exceptional reviews, with singles from the album all winning accolades. Group Therapy, the band's second release in 2010 received similar acclaim, including Album of The Year by Mixmag.
The band have toured at clubs and festivals around the world, taking in destinations across the UK, Spain, Brazil, Japan and even the Mojave Desert. Their Group Therapy World tour also took in Asia, Australia and wider Europe, as well as Hawaii. They have won two International Dance Music Awards, two BBC Radio Awards, and been nominated for dozens more.
