Glasgow to host this year's UCI BMX Racing World Cup this May
The UCI BMX Racing World Cup is one of the newest and most exciting international cycling events out there and this May it will be taking place on home soil in Glasgow.
Glasgow’s BMX Centre will host rounds one and two of the UCI BMX Racing World Cup on the 28 and 29 May.
The event will be the first international BMX event to take place in the city since the 2018 European Championships, where Kyle Evans and Kye Whyte secured a famous British one-two in front of a roaring crowd.
Next May’s event will also host the BMX events at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships and is a base to a variety of clubs including the Western Titans BMX club, Glasgow Riderz and Movement Park, as well as schools and emerging new community groups from across Scotland.
Glasgow’s centre boasts a 400m track, step-ups, rollers, berms, tabletops and all of the explosive features of a world class BMX venue. Providing a home for elite athletes and complete beginners alike, your support of the event will help develop the sport of BMX and create opportunities for riders of all levels to get involved.
BMX has taken the world by storm and is one of the most gripping events in any cycling competition calendar, with sprints, jumps and fiercely competitive riders, it will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
Beth Shriever, British Rider, Tokyo gold medallist and current world champion will be looking for another victory with the iconic rainbow jersey. She said: “Being able to race in a home world cup as the Olympic champion and wearing the rainbow jersey is just mind-blowing, and after the challenges of the past 18 months it’s going to be incredible to see packed stands cheering the riders on. As a team we already have our sights set on Paris and we’ll be looking to continue our great track record of home success in Glasgow.”
British Cycling members will be offered priority access to tickets from Tuesday 01 March before they go on general sale on Thursday 10 March 2022.
