UKA Indoor and Outdoor Season 2010

The 2010 athletics season is already underway, but there is still plenty of action left to see! With 5 events still to take place and 4 more cities left to visit, make sure you're there supporting your favourite athlete as they take on the best in the sport from all corners of the globe. And what's more, each event is a great day out for friends and family, watching world class sport at extremely affordable prices.

Next stop is The English Institute of Sport in Sheffield on 13th & 14th of February, where a pure British field will line up determined to secure their place on the plane bound for the World Indoor Championships in Doha the following month.

A week later the athletes will have an opportunity to demonstrate their form against a world class field, prior to the World Indoor Championships in Doha. The Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham's NIA arena on Saturday 20th February is the showcase event of the Indoor season and 2010 will see it packed full of entertainment and near on 8,000 fans.

Britain's leading ladies, world champion Jessica Ennis, silver medallist Lisa Dobriskey and bronze medallist Jenny Meadows have already confirmed their attendance. They will be joined by a field of international stars including the second fastest woman in history, Carmelita Jeter & former Olympic and World triple jump champion, Christian Olsson.

As well as world class athletics, Extreme High Jump is set to stun the crowd as the newly added pre-show when it begins a 12.30pm. High Jump athletes will compete against BMX riders and Inline skaters, where skill and tricks will be the order of the day!

After a short break, the Outdoor season will begin in Birmingham at the Aviva European Trials and UK Championships in July. British athletes will once again be fighting hard to secure their place in the Aviva GB & NI Team, this time heading to Barcelona for the European Championships if they are successful. As well as the action in the stadium, the weekend will be packed full of activities for all the family.

The final two events of the Outdoor season in 2010 take place in Gateshead and London, and are two of only fourteen events in the world to be selected to form the IAAF Diamond League. This brand new and incredibly exciting World Series starts in Doha in May, visiting six countries before arriving on Gateshead's shores for the eight meet, the Aviva British Grand Prix in July at Gateshead International Stadium.

The IAAF Diamond League works by athletes competing for points within their discipline, and points makes prize money! In each of the 32 athletic disciplines in the league, there will be an "IAAF Diamond Race" with points available throughout the season. The athlete with the most points at the end of the series will be awarded a 4 carat diamond (worth approximately $US 80,000).

Meet number twelve in the IAAF Diamond League calendar and the final Major Event in the UK for 2010, is the Aviva London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in August. The athletes will be hot off the plane from the European Championships in Barcelona a week previous, hoping to glitter London with their medals. With its two day format, the Aviva London Grand Prix comprises of more IAAF Diamond League disciplines than any other event on the world circuit. Last year Usain Bolt thrilled the crowds, and this year it will be a critical meet in the series as the final few points will be up for grabs to win the hotly contested DIAMOND in their respective discipline.
