Scarlett StrallenOlivier Award Winning Scarlett Strallen talks to Ticketmaster about her role as the world's most famous nanny in Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's musical stage production of Mary Poppins.
1. Welcome back to Cherry Tree Lane! What is it about Mary Poppins that, as an actress, made you want to return to it?
It's a dream part in a wonderful show with a brilliant story to tell. I couldn't resist coming back.
2. Which of Mary Poppins' magical powers do you wish you had in real life, and why?
I think the obvious one would be to fly. I'm so lucky that I get to fly every night.
3. What is your favourite part of the show to perform and why?
Looking out over the audience and seeing their faces as I fly out is a special moment.
4. Mary Poppins is a huge role for any actress to take on - massive amounts of acting, singing and dancing. How do you prepare yourself to do eight shows a week?
I have to live a rather monastic life. Not too many late nights and most importantly a good diet to keep up the stamina.
5. If you could play any role in a show that is currently playing in the West End (but not Mary Poppins) which would it be and why?
I don't think much compares to Mary as a part, I really couldn't say.
6. Your sister Summer is appearing in The Drowsy Chaperone at the Novello Theatre. With both of you being leading ladies, is there much rivalry between you?
None at all. We are only ever extremely proud of each other.
7. Your sister has said in an interview that she would love to play Velma in Chicago with you playing Roxie. Is this a project that you would be up for?
Why not? I would love that!
8. What was the last West End show you saw and did you enjoy it?
It was The Drowsy Chaperone and I loved it. It's a fantastic show.
9. You spent Christmas with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon performing in Merry Wives the Musical with Judi Dench, Alistair McGowan, Simon Callow and Haydn Gwynn. That must have been quite an experience - how was it?
Really wonderful. Working with the RSC is a real joy and learning from Judi Dench and Simon Callow is a rare treat.
10. What is next for Scarlett Strallen?
Who knows? Hopefully just keep working and being creative.
See Scarlett in Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward Theatre.
