The star of Chicago the Musical's national tour talks to Ticketmaster ahead of the show's UK Tour dates.

1. You are about to return to the role of Roxie Hart in Chicago. What is it about this role that made you want to reprise it?
The role of Roxie Hart is terrific to play, and i had so much fun when I did Chicago in 2004 (gosh, is it really that long ago?!). I love Roxie because she is so like me. She is hard, tough and driven, but underneath she has a heart.

2. As well as stage musicals, you also appeared as Meg in the film version of The Phantom of the Opera. What was the process you went through to getting this part?
Appearing in Phantom was amazing - but as with everyone, I had to audition and do a screen test. The director, Joel Schumacher, seemed pleased with me - and they even wrote Meg into some extra scenes!

3. What would be your dream role in musical theatre and who (fantasy or fiction) would be your ideal co-star?
I guess my dream role would be Pretty Woman - not that anyone could ever top Julia Roberts. I just love that film. In terms of co-star, I probably shouldn\'t say this, but I am more than just a little bit jealous of my mate Claire Sweeney for playing opposite Patrick Swayze. That said, I can\'t really complain - I\'ve got Ian Kelsey!

4. You are equally famous for your television, theatre, film and recording work. Which medium do you prefer to work in and why?
You know, they are all so different. With TV, everything is very immediate; you set up a shot; you may or may not get to rehearse the scene; and then you are shooting - moving straight onto the next scene. Films take much longer, and there is a lot of waiting around whilst every aspect of the scene is prepared perfectly; with theatre you get the immediate feedback from an audience - which is a real buzz. Every audience reacts differently too, so no two shows are ever the same - which is really exciting. There isn\'t one medium I prefer - I just feel really lucky that I have been able to try them all!

5. What is your ideal way to spend a day in London?
Shopping. Lunch. More shopping. Perhaps a trip to the salon. And then a nice meal - either at home or at a nice restaurant. Pretty much like any other girl spending a day in London I guess!

6. What was the last West End show you saw and did you enjoy it?
I went to see Chicago just before I started rehearsals - just as a little refresher! Bonnie Langford was a brilliant Roxie. Amra-Faye Wright who played Velma will be in the show with me too...and she was just superb. Brenda Edwards, from the X-Factor, will also stay on as Mama Morton. She has an amazing voice. I am making myself feel nervous now!!

7. What is your favourite section of Chicago to perform and why?
I love the "Roxie" number. I get a brilliantly written monologue first, which then goes into a full song and dance number with the boys. Who wouldn't love that!

8. What was your first theatrical experience that made you think "I want to do this as my job"?
I was three when I decided I wanted to be a dancer. My mum bought me the video of the musical Annie. I just played it over and over and copied every single dance routine and learnt every song. I think I could probably still do "You're never fully dressed without a smile"!!

9. When you finally hang up your leotard and fish net stockings, what is next for Jennifer Ellison?
Well, after my five weeks in the West End, I am only hanging them up for a few weeks because I am then taking Chicago on a UK tour, opening at the end of September in Birmingham. I have already filmed a new TV drama, which will be aired later in the year, and I have the lead in a new film too.

10. How do you cope every night, being surrounded in Chicago by scantily clad, muscle rippling members of the male ensemble?
I Know... It's Not Bad Job Really, Is It!
