David IanDavid Ian has enjoyed a successful career as an independent producer. He became Chairman of Global Theatre in 2005. His production credits include: Saturday Night Fever, Anything Goes, The Producers, Guys and Dolls to name a few.
David talks to Ticketmaster about the new production featuring Danny and Sandy played by actors voted for by the public on ITV's recent programme.
1. So David, are you happy with the success of Grease is the Word?
Thrilled - it's been huge fun and we have four very talented people in the final - plus a £5million advance at the box office!
2. Apart from Grease, what other West End musical did you enjoy producing most?
The Sound of Music.
3. Grease is one of the most popular musicals ever, what do you believe keep people coming back to it over and over again?
Great songs, great story and great humour.
4. What is your favourite number from Grease the musical and why?
You're The One That I Want - it always gets the audience on their feet.
5. Are there any new additions to this production of Grease and have you already cast the entire show?
We are doing the song 'Freddie My Love' from the original Broadway script for the first time in this production. It is all cast now.
6. How are rehearsals for Grease coming along and will the winning Danny and Sandy be under pressure?
Rehearsals start 18 June - The Danny and Sandy have a lot to learn!
7. Grease opens on 25 July, are you looking forward to the opening night and have you got any surprises in store?
I can't wait for the opening night - there should be a great party and some surprise celebrities in the audience!
8. Who has been your favourite judge to work with?
Brian Friedman - he's articulate, incisive and fun.
9. Who is your favourite Grease character and why?
Danny - what guy wouldn't want to be him?!
10. Grease is billed to be the biggest show of the summer, what do you hope audiences will walk away with?
Grease is the ultimate 'feel-good' musical for all the family - so most of all, I want the audience to leave with a big smile on their face.
