The world's best-loved musical, The Sound Of Music, returns to the West End with a dazzling new production opening at the London Palladium.

1. What does winning the part of Maria mean to you?
Winning the role of Maria means the world to me. I've been waiting for the opportunity to audition for the show for years and years and I thought at least I'd make the chorus, but to win the main role in this way is a dream come true.

2. From an insiders point of view, how intense was it being part of the whole reality TV / live TV experience?
Being a part of the whole reality tv/live tv experience was extremely nerve wracking. Having to learn new songs and script from day to day, living away from home and missing friends were the hard parts but I enjoyed every second of every day and the whole experience was the best thing that has ever happened to me.

3. Apart from the obvious, what would be your ideal role in musical theatre?
My ideal role in Musical Theatre, apart from playing Maria, has always been Mary Poppins or Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady but I'd love to play Victor Victoria if the musical is ever brought to the West End.

4. Who has influenced you the most, and who's career path would you most like to follow?
Julie Andrews because she is my idol.

5. Explain how it felt singing 'So long, farewell' to a rejected Maria when you knew you had made it through to the next round.
Although it was tough we all knew it was a competition and that one of us had to be voted off, so we prepared ourselves and it was all in great spirit. I think also that singing "so long farewell" was an opportunity for the girl who was going to sing one last time to a massive audience.

6. Which was the last West End show you saw and did you enjoy it?
Avenue Q was the last West End show I saw and I loved it. It was the funniest musical I've seen in a long time and one of my ex-housemates and a friend from Mountview are in it.

7. The London Palladium stage has felt the tread of showbiz royalty. Is it daunting joining that club?
No, its an honour to perform on such an iconic stage following in the footsteps of so many famous people.

8. What is next for Connie Fisher?
A cup of tea. No seriously I hope that this will be the beginning of a long career in musical theatre, TV, film acting and generally entertaining people! And I hope that this experience will be the opportunity that opens those doors.
