Christian Slater, star of One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, talks to Ticketmaster about his return to the London stage this autumn, for the world premiere of the wickedly funny and modern thriller, Swimming with Sharks.

1. How do you feel to be back in the West End?
It feels great! We're all very excited and nervous. It's a new play so that comes with its own set of new challenges and obstacles to overcome, but we have a great team of people helping to pull it all together.

2. Swimming with Sharks was originally a 1994 black comedy/drama film, what are your thoughts on the film and what do you think you can add to the role?
I thought the film was cool at the time. I try to make every role my own...and you can tell me what I bring to the role after you see the show.

3. How would you describe the play to someone who had never heard of Swimming with Sharks?
It is extremely funny in a black, slightly sadistic (!!!) way. It's a fast-paced thriller and a great piece of fun.

4. Of the many shows you have starred in on-stage, which has been the most memorable and why?
I had so much fun doing One flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, it was the best time I have ever had and I got to do it every night. The cast was fantastic to work with and we all became a bit of a family! It ended up feeling like we were doing a rock concert every night as well! Many of the cuckoo's cast came to our press night and it was like a family reunion, just fantastic to see them all again. Live theatre is the rawest form of entertainment and I'm simply grateful that London holds theatre in such high regard.

5. What are the differences between Broadway audiences and the West End?
London audiences are more attentive and really react to the moments in the play. London audiences also really know how to laugh and enjoy themselves. Swimming with Sharks has a lot of laughs in it and you hear the audiences' reaction every night. It's fantastic.

6. You have lived in both the US and UK, which do you prefer?
I love London and I love LA. Both cities offer different wonderful experiences. At the moment, I am living near Buckingham Palace and I enjoy walking to and from the theatre each day, strolling through London's parks and historic streets is just fantastic.

7. Would you ever go back to films?
I have never left films and I still make a lot of movies. Last year, I was in Bobby and have just finished working with Antony Hopkins on a new movie. I have also just finished doing the voice of Moses in a new animated version of the Ten Commandments with Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina. I also have several film projects on the go for next year.

8. What would be your dream theatre role?
It's hard to say as playing Randle P McMurphy in Cuckoo's Nest and Buddy Ackerman in Swimming with Sharks are two fantastic parts. Now rehearsals have finished and I have some time during the day, I am reading lots of plays to decide the next role I would like to play in London.

9. What other plays have you seen in the West End and what did you think of them?
This city is fantastic for the wide and rich variety of plays on offer. You are so lucky. I saw Macbeth with Patrick Stewart recently which I thought was brilliant and he is one superb actor.

10. What is next for Christian Slater?
At the moment, I am here at the Vaudeville Theatre until 19 January in Swimming with Sharks and then I will be doing a new film in April... All I can say is watch this space!
