Czech star Novotna comes to Liverpool.
Former Wimbledon Ladies' Singles Champion Jana Novotna is the latest player to sign-up for the TFS-ICAP Liverpool International Tennis Tournament this June.
Liverpool's leafy Calderstones Park will be the venue for a re-match of the 1997 Wimbledon Ladies' Singles Final as Novotna takes on Martina Hingis in an exhibition match. Hingis beat Novotna to win the title in '97, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, and become the youngest Wimbledon singles champion since Merseyside's Lotty Dodd in 1887.
This will be Jana's first visit to the Liverpool tournament; "I've heard a lot about Liverpool, and I'm looking forward to seeing the city. It's special to visit during the European Capital of Culture year."
Tournament Director Anders Borg added; "I'm delighted to welcome another former Wimbledon Champion to the city. The people of Liverpool will be able to watch a fascinating re-match of the 1997 final and see two of the biggest stars of women's tennis in their local park."
Novotna retired from professional tennis in 1999. During her 14-year career she won 100 titles. She was inducted to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2005.
Jana is the latest high-profile name to sign up to the Liverpool International and joins other former Wimbledon Champions such as Pat Cash, Goran Ivanisevic, Martina Hingis, Ilie Nastase, Peter McNamara (doubles) and Caroline Wozniacki (Junior).
