The Red Hot Chili Peppers were formed with the original name of Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem. In 1983 they changed their name to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and since then have enjoyed both success and their fair share of tragedy.
Original guitarist Hillel Slovak died in 1988 from a heroin overdose, and replacement John Frusciante left the group after completing the classic 1991 album Blood Sugar Sex Magik to battle his own addictions. He rejoined the group for 1999's Californication, the record that broke a much wider fan base for the band.

2002's By the Way capitalised on this success, and incendiary performances at Slane Castle in Ireland and Hyde Park in England show that the group's live show has lost none of its excitement over the years.
