Lyric Opera presents Verdi’s much loved opera La Traviata at the Gaiety Theatre. Directed by Vivian Coates, and presented in partnership with the RTE Concert Orchestra conducted by David Angus. It is sung in Italian with English subtitles.
An Irish and international cast is headed by Claudia Boyle, rising Irish opera star and recent winner of the International Maria Callas Award. She is supported by exciting Italian Tenor Luigi Boccia and English baritone George Mosley. The acclaimed Lyric Opera chorus accompanies.
La Traviata tells the story of Violetta, the beautiful but fragile social butterfly, who sacrifices her one hope of personal happiness for the sake of her lover’s reputation.
A tragic and resonant tale of society and morality, it combines compelling characters with hugely powerful, moving and instantly recognisable melodies, making it one of the most emotionally engaging and popular operas of all time.
