Biography
Short Biography
Performing with full live band. The UK's foremost soul recording and touring band The Drizabone Soul Family return in 2012 with their new album "The Recipe of Life" released in September thru Absolute Marketing/Universal Music.
The hot new album from Drizabone Soul Family features some great new tracks and one or two reworked Drizabone tracks.
You'll love the up tempo track "Come On Back" with its Motown vibe and stylish vocal, whilst the hot dance track that is "New York City Nights" with its 70's disco beat and heavy bass will whisk you off to the dance floor. Then there is a soul searcher aptly named "Sell My Soul" offering its modern retro sound with an Amy Winehouse feel and not forgetting our title track "The Recipe Of Life" which itself is a track from the heart of D R I Z A B O N E, with lyrics like "a little bit of fire, a little bit of strife, a little bit of love that's The Recipe Of Life"
We just hope YOU LOVE IT as much as we do!
The bands last album "All the Way", released in 2010 was heavily championed by all mature radio in the UK, attaining playlist status at many radio stations including BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio London, the Smooth Radio Network, Jazz FM, and Solar Radio etc. BBC Radio 2 play listed multiple tracks from the album and declared it "album of the week" in July 2010. Tracks from the album have also been heard several times on TV most notably during Peggy’s departure scene from "Eastenders".
Drizabone have enjoyed success since their first hit record "Real Love" in the 90's, a timeless Soulful dance groove which endures on dance floors to this day. The band followed that up with a remix of "I Love Your Smile" by U.S artist Shanice, reaching No 2 in the U.K chart. Along with producing their own prestigious debut album, Conspiracy which was released on Island Records, they also remixed the likes of Diana Ross, Mary j Blige, Kylie, Lulu and Barry White, amongst many others during the 90's. The Drizabone Soul Family is now fronted by three female vocalists, Shniece, Anna-Marie and Nataya whom Billy refers to as his "Dreamgirls"
They band has been very busy touring the country, with their funky soulful live show, supporting the likes of Eliza Doolittle and Incognito and played numerous multiple sold out sets at the Jazz Cafe in Camden, Ronnie Scotts in Soho and many regional dates such as Band On The Wall in Manchester, Hoochie Coochie in Newcastle and the legendary Northern Soul events held at the King Georges Hall in Blackburn with DJ legend Richard Searling.
In-depth Biography
London soul collective Driza Bone were part of the same early-'90s acid-jazz scene that kickstarted the careers of Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai, and Incognito. Formed by Billy April and Vincent Garcia, the band used several different female vocalists in their early days, including Sophie Jones, who recorded the original demos of their only Top 20 single, "Real Love," and Dee Heron, who appeared on the single release. After remixing hits for Alison Limerick, Lisa Stansfield, and Shanice, the duo charted at number two, both in the U.K. and U.S., with their reworked version of "I Love Your Smile," they began work on their debut album. Conspiracy was recorded entirely with Atlanta-based actress/singer Kimberly Peer, and spawned a further two Top 40 entries, but following the 1995 re-release of their biggest hit, the band went quiet. April returned under his real name, Billy Freeman, in 2010, with a new album, All the Way, under the guise of a new project, the Drizabone Soul Family, a five-piece group featuring new vocalists Anneka Johnson and Nataya. ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi
