Short Biography
Following his triumphant performances at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert earlier this year and an extensive US tour; Alfie Boe has added four extra dates to his biggest UK tour for 2013 including a hometown show at Blackpool’s Opera House.
‘The Nation’s Tenor’ Alfie Boe is one of UK’s huge success stories; not only did he sell out a 23 date UK tour of Britain’s finest concert halls, he sold approaching 750,000 copies of his albums ‘Bring Him Home’ and ‘Alfie’, whilst also fitting in a critically acclaimed West End run as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables.
Alfie recently signed a book deal with Simon & Schuster, with the autobiography “My Story” released on August 31st, recounting Alfie’s amazing story. A live DVD of his ‘Bring Him Home’ tour which won over fans and critics alike was also released earlier this year. At the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert watched by nearly 17million viewers and in front of a 20,000 strong crowd at Buckingham Palace, he performed ‘O Sole Mio / Its Now or Never’ and duetted with the wonderful Soprano Renee Fleming performing ‘Somewhere’, on the palace balcony and to end Alfie has announced a full US tour, which is already selling-out venues everywhere.
His new UK tour which starts in March 2013, sees Alfie performing at the likes of Manchester Arena and the celebrated London Royal Albert Hall. The tour follows his new studio album expected to be released in early November 2012.
Alfie said: “I’m so excited to follow up the Bring Him Home Tour which was one of the highlights of my career so far. To be performing in arenas is a dream come true and I can’t wait to get back on the road and see all my fans again in 2013.”
In-depth Biography
One of the U.K.'s most technically gifted classical crossover talents, award-winning tenor Alfie Boe grew up in Blackpool, England, listening to his father's opera records, including performances by Richard Tauber and Puccini's La Boheme. As a young adult, Boe sang while he was painting and polishing cars in a local automobile factory; he was overheard by a client who suggested Boe should audition for London's D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. Boe tried out for the company with Tauber's Dein Ist Mein Ganzes Herz and won a role in the chorus, touring and performing Gilbert & Sullivan works. When the tour finished, Boe won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music, attended the National Opera Studio, and then joined the Royal Opera House's Villar Young Artists Program. He was participating in the program when director Baz Lurhmann discovered him and cast him as one of the leads in Lurhmann's Broadway production of La Boheme, for which Boe won a Tony Award. He signed to the Classic FM Presents label in 2006 and issued his debut album, Classic FM Presents Alfie Boe, that year; it peaked at number three on the U.K. classical chart. Late in 2006, Boe moved to EMI Classics and the following spring his second album, Onward, arrived. Boe explored his love of folk music with La Pasione, a collection of Italian folk songs that was released in 2007. Performances in Kismet, Richard Strauss' Elektra, La Traviata, and other operas ensured that his roots as a stage performer were well balanced with his recording career. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
